Safe Payment Practices
💰 MOST IMPORTANT RULE:
Never send money to anyone you haven't met in person. Always pay in cash after seeing the item.
✅ Safest Payment Methods (In-Person)
- Cash - Most secure for local transactions
- Bank transfer at time of pickup - Complete at the bank together
- Verified payment apps - Only when meeting in person
❌ Payment Methods to AVOID (Especially Online)
- Western Union or MoneyGram - Once sent, money cannot be recovered
- Gift cards (iTunes, Google Play, etc.) - Never pay with gift cards
- Cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, etc.) - Untraceable and irreversible
- Wire transfers to unknown accounts
💳 For Shipped Items
If you must ship an item (be extra cautious):
- Use escrow services for high-value items
- Get paid BEFORE shipping
- Use trackable shipping with signature confirmation
- Document packaging and condition before sending
- Consider using platforms with buyer/seller protection
🚩 Common Scams to Avoid
- Overpayment scam: Someone sends too much and asks for refund via different method
- Fake payment confirmation: Scammer sends fake screenshot of payment
- Advance fee scam: Asking for deposit to "hold" the item
- Shipping fee scam: Asking for payment to "release" item from customs/shipping
⚠️ Remember:
Legitimate buyers and sellers will always let you inspect the item BEFORE asking for payment. Never feel pressured to complete a transaction quickly.
If a deal seems suspicious, trust your instincts and walk away.
